With over a decade of dedication to Aztec, Chris has played a vital role in the company’s growth, bringing his expertise, passion, and deep-rooted ties to the area.
Chris’s connection to the land on which Aztec Oils now stands runs deep. The site was once home to the Bolsover Pit, where both his father and grandfather worked before the mine’s closure. His dad looked after the pit ponies, while his grandad was a safety inspector. As a schoolboy, Chris witnessed the infamous mining strikes of the 1980s, a defining moment in local history. He always knew the mines weren’t his path, but he never imagined he would one day work on the very ground where generations of his family had laboured.
With the pit closed and the site remaining derelict for years, Chris pursued a different route, working as a Civil Servant. However, over ten years ago, he made what he calls a leap into the "wild and wacky world of lubricants" joining Aztec Oils. Looking back, he says, “I believe there is a phrase ‘fortune favours the brave.’ Well over 10 years ago, I gave up my job as a Civil Servant to enter the world of lubricants. While not brave in the grand scheme of things, the fortune part holds true. I have been truly fortunate while at Aztec Oils to work with so many talented and amazing people.”
As Office Sales Manager, Chris is an essential part of Aztec Oils, managing the internal sales office team and ensuring that customers’ telephone and email orders are processed efficiently. His leadership ensures smooth operations and outstanding service for all our clients. He is a reliable and trusted team member, supporting our regional Aztec distributors, customers, and external sales team to meet all their needs and demands.
Chris credits his success to the support and guidance of his colleagues Jae Cope (Commercial Director), David Burton (Technical Sales Engineer), and Ian Pyper (Transport Manager). Their teamwork has been instrumental in his ability to thrive in his role, and together, they continue to push Aztec Oils forward.
Beyond the workplace, Chris’s time at Aztec has provided him with incredible opportunities he never imagined. He’s attended a Premier League football match in an executive box, walked onto the pitch with Chesterfield F.C., his boyhood club, and even earned a degree at nearly 50 years old—an achievement he is particularly proud of. “Not bad for a boy from Boza” he says proudly.
